The partnership between business and SAPS
SAPS can’t win the battle against crime without the cooperation from the business
community and the public. Under the leadership of Lieutenant General Petros, a new
partnership between these parties is making headway in the fight against crime. General Petros became a member
of the South African Police Service on 1 April 1995 serving as an Intelligence Gathering Officer and has since served
in various positions of command. Since being appointed as the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, General Petros
has applied his expertise to the New Approach to Combating Crime, which is to strengthen partnerships between
SAPS and business. This innovative approach will be the subject of General Petros’ presentation. |

Using data mining to cut internal shrinkage
Whether by collusion, sweet-hearting or any other means, retailers lose
millions each year through point-of-sale (POS) fraud. This presentation
looks at a growing trend in centralised data mining where POS data
is analysed offsite and cashiers’ performance compared to their
peers to identity fraud or areas in which staff need additional training.
Some of the largest names in retail in the EU, USA and RSA have
reported sterling results and significant
reductions in fraud. |
