Charles Lowings
Risk Control Manager, Spar Stores

After 13 years’ service in SAPS, Charles Lowings was appointed as Retail Risk Manager for the Spar Group. In his 7 years with the group he has encouraged and guided local management in driving and embedding risk management practices and making designated officials accountable for the completion of risk registers and the performance of risk/control tasks. He has also been actively involved in the facilitation of the relevant training in risk methodologies and use of related tools, as well as monitoring levels of compliance and assessing the progress made.

Errol Peace
MD, BTC Training; Chairman, SAIS

Errol joined the retail security industry in 1988 as regional loss control manager for Dion Stores and later Group LCM. In 1990 he joined OK Bazaars as shrinkage investigation manager, after which he was appointed loss control executive in 1995 and group risk manager in 1997. He started his own security risk consultancy practice in 1998 and was appointed managing director of BTC Training (Africa) (Pty) Ltd in 2002.

Kevin Monk has over 19 years experience in the South African and international electronic security industry. He is a respected figure in the industry with vast experience in some of South Africa’s largest and most complex IP video and security systems implementations. His management style is hands on and believes knowledge, integrity and efficient service are key principles to success in the security industry. As customers' risks and needs vary, Kevin’s approach will always be one of a hands-on, in-depth understanding of their needs and risk factors.

Juan Kotze
Criminal Attorney

Kotze has gained experience over the past 30 years as a Prosecutor, Magistrate and Attorney and specialises in criminal matters, litigation and firearm matters. He has acted in various cases on behalf of Spar in order to assist prosecutors and ensure effective prosecutions, especially when involving CCTV footage as evidence.

Steven Powell
Director, Edward Nathan Sonnenberg

Powell has more than 20 years experience as an advocate, specialist white-collar crime prosecutor and forensic lawyer. He specialises in leading forensic investigations, resulting in successful disciplinary and criminal proceedings against offenders as well as the recovery of losses from perpetrators.

Lieutenant General Petros
Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, SAPS

Lieutenant General Petros became a member of the South African Police Service on 1 April 1995 serving as an Intelligence Gathering Officer and has since served in various positions of command. Since being appointed as the Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Petros has applied his expertise to the New Approach to Combating Crime, which is to strengthen partnerships between SAPS and business, which he will share with the audience.

Connie Grobler
Technology Specialist, Novell

During her years in IT, Grobler focused on security (RACF), storage management policy design and implementation, and disaster recovery strategy design and implementation. In 2002 she changed her area of speciality to eTrust Security Solutions and has now been with Novell for three years, providing technical advice and support to various customers and partners on the Novell Identity and Security Management solution set.
